Christmas Day 2012

On Christmas morning everyone woke up at 6:30am, which is not typical for them anymore (at least not for Lucas and Abby - they've been sleeping late). We kept them in their room as long as we could, so that we could make sure that everything was set up in the living room. Then, when they got up, we sent them downstairs to wake up Uncle Dane. After that, we gave them a little breakfast - we didn't want any crankies during presents. Unfortunately, Abby woke up with a high fever, and she put herself back to bed after drinking a little milk. We were at a bit of a loss as to what to do - we didn't want to open presents without her, but we couldn't keep the other two in the kitchen forever.

We kept them occupied for awhile by having them help make monkey bread. They loved wearing their new aprons and helping to shake up the bag of dough/cinnamon/sugar.

Finally we decided to just wake Abby up. She didn't seem to mind. And then the present opening began!

The kids got some cool hats from Uncle Dane:

And a gummy bear nightlight, which Abby was obsessed with:

They didn't notice the dollhouse at first, but eventually they started exploring it:
Then Lucas decided he wanted to take some pictures:

Then he hid under some packing paper:

Finally the monkey bread was ready! (well, the top layer was ready)

After some refreshments, it was time to open presents with Grandmas Di and Peg on FaceTime. Dress-up clothes and scooters!

Then, after nap it was finally time to go over to Meme and Hat-Dad's house. We had a great meal, got to see Uncle Peter again, and opened some more presents.
Teddy bear tea party

It's just a toy violin, but she looks great playing it upside-down, doesn't she?!
After the kids went to bed, the brothers put together a gingerbread house for the kids to decorate the next day. It required a great deal of skill and patience. And silly hats.

Whew! It was a big day. We saved FaceTime with Papa and Mema for Thursday, since Tuesday was so busy for everyone.
Our little elf, handing out presents. Too bad he couldn't read the name tags.

Lucas had to take a snack break.

Tents!

And that's all! It was a fun holiday - it would have been nicer if everyone didn't have colds, but it was fun anyway. Now, back to our normal routine...
