We had to say goodbye to our sweet Casey on Thursday. She was diagnosed with a bone tumor in her pelvis a week ago (based on x-rays from 2 weeks ago...initially diagnosed as arthritis), and she quickly deteriorated. We took her to the vet for more x-rays on Thursday to get a better look at the tumor in order to determine treatment options, and they showed that the cancer had worsened in her pelvis and had spread to her lungs. She was in so much pain, and it was best to just let her go. She was a wonderful dog, and we will miss her terribly.
Here are a few pictures of her time with the babies.
She liked to join the babies on the blanket for play time.
She loved going on walks and was so great when we let her off-leash in the woods. It was hard to see her not be able to take walks in her last few weeks.
She loved cuddling on the couch with us. It was sad when she could no longer get up on the furniture.

She was so tolerant of the babies' antics.
Helping to clean the high chairs. How will we ever keep them (and the floor) clean now?
She loved just being near her "puppies". She often laid outside the nursery door after they went to bed.
The last picture taken of her with the babies
We still can't believe she's gone...she was only 8 years old (or 9? we lost track. she joined our family when she was 4-5 years old) and we thought we had many more years with her. It's so surreal.
