Father's Day 2012

On Father's Day weekend, Jason decided he wanted to camp with the kids in the backyard. Thankfully he had given enough hints about this that I had gotten him several camping-themed presents for Father's Day. 

Here he is setting up the tent with his helpers on Friday night:

Yes, that is Zoey only wearing a diaper in the backyard. When we do water play she hates to wear wet clothes or even a wet swimsuit.

Lucas figured out the zippers pretty quickly.

After getting into jammies and loading up backpacks with books, flashlights, and snacks, the crew headed out to the backyard:

I stayed inside and kept an ear out for trouble, but things went pretty well. The kids goofed around for awhile and stayed awake later than usual, but once they fell asleep they stayed asleep the whole night. And they woke at their usual 6am time. So none of us got to sleep late, but I think everyone had fun!


On Sunday, Jason made calls to his parents (after getting to sleep until almost 8am - whoa!).

And then we had an early dinner with Hat-Dad and Mimi (used to be spelled MeMe and pronounced May-May, but lately they've been saying it Mee-Mee instead). I would really like a table w/bench like this in our kitchen.

So that's it! A busy Father's Day weekend for a busy dad and 3 very busy toddlers!

Weekend Update

Last weekend we went to a local dog show. We figured the kids would like to see the dogs and they'd be able to run around a bit. It's a good thing it was only $5 per car to get in b/c they got bored pretty quickly.

Had to take a picture of Lucas' curls. Now that it's warm and humid out his hair is so wavy.

Lately Lucas has been wanting to wear his sisters' dresses. I can't really blame him, since they have a great wardrobe. He even insisted on wearing the bloomers underneath.

He was very proud of himself.

This weekend we had the 3rd of our series of 4 professional photo shoots with the kids. It was a hectic afternoon, so afterwards we decided to go out to eat at a local burger place.We like it because it's the kind of place where you order at the counter and your food comes quickly. Their attention span is 10-15 minutes max at restaurants, so we have to eat quickly.

Notice that Zoey is the only one in a booster seat. What kind of restaurant only has one booster seat?? We could have used high chairs but they were hard to pull close enough to the tables. We're considering visiting a restaurant supply store and seeing if we can get some basic booster seats just to keep in the car.

Well, it's Sunday night and we're exhausted as usual. Time for bed!

A visit with old friends

A couple of weeks ago we had a wonderful visit from some very dear old friends whom we've known since grad school. Yikes - this means we met 15ish years ago. It feels like yesterday. Brigid and Mike and their daughter Jasmine stayed with us for a night and we had a great time catching up. We really put our screen porch to good use after the kids went to bed - a great place to drink beer and reminisce.

Our kids love hanging out with big kids, so they had a great time with 7 year old Jasmine. I think she was a bit overwhelmed by all the attention but she was a good sport.

The kids also loved playing with Brigid and Mike. It's so nice that they're past their stranger and separation anxiety now so that we can focus on having a good time with our guests instead of dealing with terrified toddlers.

 

Despite looking so serious in every picture, the kids had fun. And it was so awesome to spend time with friends we hadn't seen in years!
