School spirit

Last weekend we did a lot of fun things - the weather was a bit cooler (i.e., less than 95 degrees) and there was lots of stuff going on. On Friday, we took the babies to Fridays After Five, our city's free concert series. It was a bit too loud for them, but we managed to stay long enough to eat a little dinner and answer 5 million questions from strangers about having triplets. Apparently trying to fool the general public by each wearing a baby in a carrier and only pushing a single stroller is fruitless.

On Saturday, Lucas went with Jsaon to the farmer's market, and Abby went with Jason to a tailgate. And then on Sunday we took all the babies to a men's soccer game. They enjoyed getting dressed up in school colors and getting some fresh air.

The babies got dressed up in their Michigan gear for Saturday's first game. I'll let Jason do a separate post if he wants to discuss babies watching college football.

I like this picture because it shows how they all turned to look at me when I walked in the room. I'm so popular.


It feels good to be getting good enough at taking the babies out that we can do more things as a family. It also helps that the weather is getting a little more reasonable. I think summer in the south leaves us housebound the way winter in the north does.

The babies have seemed to really notice each other more and more. They interact and look at each other more, reach out to each other to hold hands (and pull hair and ears), and seem to enjoy being near each other. Here are a few sweet pictures to show what I mean.

What a difference a year makes

We've been observing lots of milestones recently, as we compare our life this summer to our life last summer. On Sept 4, 2009, we had our first ultrasound and received quite a surprise. Although we saw three strong heartbeats, we were warned that we might lose one (or more) baby in the first trimester. Those next 6-7 weeks were harrowing, and our first tiny sigh of relief came once we made it out of the first trimester.

Yoga

On the very first morning that Diane and Jo were here, they kindly went with me to mom-baby yoga class. We had fun learning to breathe, lift and carry babies properly, and do some good ab/leg/arm work. Everyone was quite sore the next day! And even though class was during the babies' morning nap time, they didn't get too fussy until the end of class.

Activities

We are gradually getting more confident about taking the babies out and about for different activities. The past two weeks we've gone to a mom-baby yoga class, since I've had helpers to bring along. It's a nice little workout and a good way to learn new ways of interacting with the babies. And the bonus is the good nap that the babies take afterwards:



Jason thinks it's funny to put the babies on top of each other. Usually Lucas laughs when we put a sister on his tummy, but this time he cried instead.

Baby-wearing is another fun past-time at our house, usually when someone is fussy.



But be careful about wearing one baby, holding another on your hip, and bending over to pick something up off the floor. Zoey spit up all over Abby - ick!

New stroller! and other Saturday highlights

This weekend we bought a triple stroller from a local triplet family whose boys had outgrown it. It's huge but isn't too hard to maneuver, and it has a lot of flexible options in terms of seat angle, rain cover, winter "sleeping bags" for warmth, etc. We took it for a spin in the neighborhood and it worked pretty well.

Zoey had been having fun in the jumperoo, when we realized we hadn't heard her playing in awhile. This is what we found when we checked on her. Oops. Guess it's easy to get distracted by the noisy babies and forget to check on the quiet ones.

We're excited about the arrival of Grandma Di and Aunt Jo on Sunday and will be sure to post lots of pictures from their visit.

News Flash!

Well folks, after many frustrating days (for Lucas, not for us), Lucas has finally figured out how to roll from back to tummy! He has been wanting to do this for awhile and has been working so hard, but for a long time couldn't figure out how to maneuver his head and lower arm. Here's a video of one of his unsuccessful attempts:



He has even been trying to roll over in his crib, which has led to frustration and sleeplessness for all of us - it seems he feels that 3am is an ideal time to work on rolling, and to cry when it doesn't work. Here's a picture of how I found him in his crib on Thursday morning:



Apparently he did not want to be even a day older than 5 months when he accomplished his goal. We'll try to capture the actual rolling on video soon and add it to this post.
